Iran's Latest Warship Capsizes In Dry Dock

Satellite images backed with some footages indicate that an Iranian Navy ship has fallen on its port side in a dry dock.

The vessel known as Talaiyeh was being constructed in the Port of Bandar Abbas, as continuation of Iranian made Jamaran class corvettes. The 1500 ton displacement Jamaran’s design is actually based on British Alvand class, which was delivered to Iranian Navy during Shah regime.

At first Talaiyeh would carry the same role with her predecessors, then it was decided to convert the ship to carry out intelligence duties.

The latest of the class, Dena, was delivered to Iranian Navy in June 2021.

Iranian Navy had a series of unfortunate events.

One of the other ships in this class, the ill-fated Damawand was grounded and sank in Caspian Sea in 2018.

In June 2021, the largest warship in the Iranian Navy caught fire and sank in the Gulf of Oman, under unclear circumstances.

Another naval disaster for Iranian Navy is the Konarak incident. Iranian Navy ship Konarak, an original Dutch design support ship, was struck by a missile fired from the Iranian corvette Jamaran in a friendly fire incident during training on May 2020.
